About CT Academy

CT Academy is a free, graduate-level course in computed tomography for radiology residents, CT technologists, medical physicists in training, and anyone who wants to truly understand the modality. There is no paywall, no account, and no advertising. Your progress is stored privately in your browser.

Real data, never illustrations

Cartoon diagrams teach you what a textbook author thinks a scan looks like. CT Academy teaches you from the real thing. Every volume, slice, and 3D model on this site is real, de-identified, openly-licensed imaging, rendered in a genuine WebGL medical-imaging engine — the same kind of windowing, multiplanar reconstruction, and volume rendering you use at a clinical workstation. When you change a window setting here, you are manipulating real Hounsfield units from a real scan.

How it works

• Viewer: volumes and meshes render with NiiVue, a WebGL2 medical-imaging library, directly in your browser — nothing is pre-rendered to video.
• Content: each module is written to a graduate standard, with the underlying physics and mathematics (rendered with KaTeX), board-style self-assessment, and references to primary literature.
• Hosting: a Next.js application deployed on Vercel; static and fast, free to serve.
